Eurostars programme supports cooperation of Estonian and Italian companies in developing novel methods for cancer diagnosis

07 April
European funding programme Eurostars, dedicated to research and development intensive SMEs, has decided to support a project prepared with the help of Invent Baltics’ consultants. Estonian – Italian joint biomedical company HansaBioMed Ltd will be receiving approximately 684 000 Euros during next three years.

The CIRTUMAN project aims to develop novel, non-invasive methods for cancer diagnosis and new antibodies against specific tumour markers. Pre-clinical tests have shown that quantitative and qualitative analysis of exosomes in body fluids might represent an innovative method for diagnosing and monitoring cancer as well as other diseases.

Significant demand exists for early, non-invasive cancer diagnostic and monitoring methods for scientific as well as clinical use. Project consortium consists of HansaBioMed and a leading Italian biotechnology company Primm srl. The overall budget of the project is 1.6 million Euros.

The Eurostars programme is coordinated by the EUREKA secretariat in cooperation with the European Commission and national funding agencies. New projects can be submitted by 24th of September 2009.
