Robot swarm technology successfully tested

10.01.2010 - TALLINN. In closer future one may see robot swarms substituting humans, as an EU funded project ROBOSWARM tested successfully swarm coordination technology demonstrator. The project was initiated and prepared by Invent Baltics consultants.
The objective of the ROBOSWARM project was to develop a technology for robot swarms usable in domestic and public area applications - cleaning, patrolling, escorting and other. An innovative project engaged 9 partners from 7 different countries and received 2,1 mln Euros co-funding for research and development from Framework Programme 7.A three year project came to an end with successful demonstrator, where a swarm of simple robots carry out cleaning tasks. Positioning and navigation is assisted by fixed RFID tags, which mark different surfaces and objects, and are used by robots for task sharing and coordination. The technology has engage interest also from Microsoft research centre.
