Invent Baltics supported Estonian companies in preparing 2 successful Horizon 2020 SME Instrument Phase 1 project proposals

Invent Baltics team supported Advanced Sports Installations Europe AS and Meratel OÜ in preparing successful SME Instrument Phase 1 project proposals to the European Commission Horizon 2020 research and innovation funding programme.

During the Phase 1 projects the firms will work on carrying out feasibility assessments including market research, freedom-to-operate analyses and technological feasibility studies. Both proposals were successful under the Horizon 2020 “Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials” work program.

Advanced Sports Installation Europe is in synthetic turf recycling and renewal business. The Estonian company is currently developing a complex mobile solution for synthetic turf full recycling on site. ASIE´s target markets are currently in Scandinavia and Central-Europe, but the market need for high-efficiency synthetic turf recycling technologies is growing rapidly both in EU and external markets.

Meratel is developing an environmentally friendly, efficient and profitable solution for converting scrap tyres into high quality products, such as light heating oil used in heat and power generation. The technology allows converting tyres into high yield of high quality products without generating additional waste or pollution.

The SME Instrument is a funding instrument under the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme that supports innovative Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in Europe and associated countries. The instrument aims to fill the gaps in funding for research and innovation at early stages and thereby accelerate the exploitation of novel solutions to address key societal challenges or enabling technologies. The SME Instrument Phase 1 funding supports SMEs to cover the funding for initial feasibility assessment and business modelling for the novelty. Phase 2 funding is targeted to SMEs with particular focus on product development, demonstration activities and market replication.

The next cut-off dates for Phase 1 and Phase 2 project proposals are June 17, September 17 and November 25, 2015. Invent Baltics OÜ provides initial consultancy regarding funding opportunities within the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation program free of charge.
